CHENNAI: Chennai airport is shutting passenger amenities together with left bag rooms, smoking places, and others, as vigilance has raised objections to a number of the contracts. This comes at a time when the airport faces social media flak for negative passenger services. The left bags room, which’s useful for passengers to deposit their luggage and explore the town if there may be a long layover, has been shut for some days, and notices were pasted alerting passengers. A reputable stated the contractor who walked it for years underneath the extension withdrew. This has attracted the vigilance wing’s attention, which has observed faults with how the facility is run. Similar is the situation with a smoking room and a few ATMs.
Sources stated that finding new contractors, the next extension of current contractors, and irregularity in settlement created hurdles in walking the centers. “Also, there are objections from different departments at the airport. This is stopping the establishment of new centers,” said a reliable source.
The airport government has been unable to set up meal and beverage stalls in some places inside the terminals because having a stall manned by staff is considered a protection risk.
“We are trying to find a choice. We have supplied smoking rooms. The contractor changed to preserving the facility well, becoming an extension. Now, the contractor has left. We are preserving the smoking room. It will take a month to put in a luggage room temporarily, and then a clean agreement may be made. There are some criminal hurdles, too, within the settlement. Many of the contracts come to be in prison tangle, which makes it tough to provide accurate provider to the people,” stated a respectable.
There are no takers for luggage carriers these days in Chennai. This has affected the contractor’s sales, who have to retain to pay the high license price to the airport. It was famous when there was desirable traffic from Chennai to Colombo, Dubai, and other locations.
However, an authentic statement was made that the provider wishes to be operated even with low patronage.
“The settlement machine needs to be tweaked to inspire people to bid for it and perform it because it is a useful provider for the passengers. Left bags rooms, smoking rooms, ATMs, and all should be considered crucial for passengers. It is excessive time AAI stopped viewing them as sales income services and for vigilance to crack down in simple terms on technical reasons of agreement irregularity,” he said.
