The South is famous for decadent pies, fresh desserts, and many specific threats. For people who do not stay within the South, concocting something that hits all the right notes after a savory meal could be difficult.
Charleston, South Carolina’s meals scene is booming with plenty of cooks and bakers experimenting with the classics — bringing new flavors to old favorites. At Charleston Wine + Food this month, a few of the city’s satisfactory cooks might flex their culinary muscle tissues at various events.
We’ve rounded up an expansion of collaborating cooks’ unique cakes that make a great ending (or starting!) to a meal.
Southern recipes are probably recognized for their prolific use of butter, but these decadent chocolate cookies are surely dairy-free! Instead, they get their suitable texture from a remarkable aspect (trace: think veggies!). In addition to sweet cherries, those cookies get a piece of heat from chipotle powder.

Southern-style desserts are recognized for their moist, decadent layers—and this cake has four! But the marshmallow meringue keeps this cake pretty light.
The Grasshopper Dessert Cocktail is Leon’s Oyster Shop’s take on a true tradition. Instead of a creamy cocktail, the restaurant’s model is a very decadent milkshake—with a little something extra, of course. If you can’t choose between dessert and an after-dinner drink, take pleasure in this!
