Stephen Edwards, Executive Director of South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE), become lately named the new Chair of the Urban Transport Group (UTG). Here, we quiz him at the areas he’ll be specializing in his new function, connecting delivery services, operating as a collective with other institution contributors, and extra.
Five matters are of specific importance to me that largely overlap with UTG’s priorities. Firstly, the bus network and its sustainability – particularly the problem of patronage decline. The two things are symbiotic. As patronage falls, the financial viability of the community reduces, often leading to reductions in provider provision which in turn make the network much less attractive. This is a trend we see across the United Kingdom.
The following factor is a long-term sustainable investment in shipping. Infrastructure investment entails complicated initiatives with long transport times. Having certainty over future investment availability allows decision makers to plan and put into effect the right projects in preference to fitting work to the investment available.
